Chinese Five Spice

This fragrant spice is an essential ingredient in my Chinese Plum Sauce, amongst other things, and its really easy to make

Cinnamon Stick
2 each
Fennel Seeds
1.5 tsp
Star Anise
2 each
Szechuan Peppercorns
1 tsp

Method

  1. This is so simple - use a spice grinder if you have one which will whizz the whole spices together in a metter of moments
  2. If not, you will need to use something like a pestle and mortar to crush the whole spices or use ready ground spices and mix together - the result will not be quite as fragrant as freshly ground but still a great flavour
